Remove Facial Hair
An essential part of facial skin care regimen is the removal of unwanted facial hair. There are a variety of creams, lotions, serums and gels on the market, as well as, an extensive range of hair removal methods. Let us understand the causes of facial hair growth and ways to handle it.
The Causes of Facial Hair Growth
Facial hair growth continues to plague many women around the world. The causes range anywhere from hormone imbalance, heredity, and ethnicity, to stress levels of the individual. Dark hair on the face, especially on the upper lip and cheeks, is a common problem faced by many women. Some women also have hairlines on the chest area and back.
There are several methods for the removal of facial hair that you can do yourself. The density of your hair and how quickly it grows back is the deciding factor in choosing the best method for you. Let us examine some of the most popular hair removal techniques:
Plucking
This method works best for the extra stands of hair on the chin and the eyebrows. While plucking, make sure you have a firm grip of the hair and pull it slowly in the direction of hair growth.
However, make sure that you pluck the hair out from its roots to avoid getting an ingrown hair. Ingrown hairs may cause redness of the skin and white bumps on the surface of the skin. This process can be time consuming; therefore a different method must be used for other areas of the skin with bigger areas of unwanted hair growth.
Shaving
When the hair growth is thick and widely spread, plucking becomes almost impossible. Shaving is the viable option for these areas. However, shaving can cause bumps, ingrown hair and razor cuts. It’s a better way to remove hair from legs and arms but with the delicate skin of the face it must be taken as the last recourse.
Hair Removal Creams
Hair removal creams contain certain chemicals that dissolve the hair shaft below the skin’s surface and make the removal process easy and quick. The results can last for up to two weeks or so. However, the chemicals used in the cream may irritate certain skin types and also may leave behind some stray hairs that have to be removed individually. Also, do not use these creams around the eyes or other sensitive areas, as these areas are more likely to become irritated.
Waxing
There are an extensive range of waxes available on the market, like azulene and beeswax that can effectively remove hair from any part of the face. The wax is heated so that it can be applied more easily. This warm wax is then applied to the skin and cloth strips are pressed onto it. Then the strips are quickly pulled off to reveal hairless smooth skin. The results can last up to a month.
Waxing can be a little painful but that again depends on your tolerance level. And considering a month with hairless, smooth skin is worth it. Remember, you will have to wait until the hair grows out before you can get waxed again.
Bleaching
This is perhaps the most painless of all facial hair removal techniques. Bleaching doesn’t actually remove hair. Rather it lightens the hair color to match your skin tone so that hair becomes less noticeable. However it becomes quite visible if you decide to venture out in the sun.
